Berbice were crowned champions of the Guyana Cricket Board Under-16 Inter-County tournament after securing a five-wicket victory over Demerara in the final at the historic Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Ground, Bourda.
After winning the toss, Demerara opted to bat first on what appeared to be a good surface. However, they struggled to build substantial partnerships and were eventually bowled out for 112 in 47.5 overs. Despite occupying the crease for much of the innings, Demerara found scoring difficult against a disciplined Berbice bowling attack that maintained tight lines and consistent pressure.
Lomar Seecharan led the scoring for Demerara with a patient 35 from 78 deliveries, attempting to anchor the innings after early wickets fell. His knock included controlled stroke play, but he lacked support from the middle order. A late cameo from Aston Collins provided a brief spark, as the lower-order batsman struck a quick 23 from 20 balls to push the total past the 100-run mark. Still, the modest score left Demerara with plenty of work to do in the field.

Berbice’s bowlers were clinical throughout the innings. Ravindra Persaud was the standout performer, claiming three crucial wickets to derail Demerara’s progress. He was well supported by Jaden Gapnat, who picked up two wickets and helped ensure Demerara never gained momentum.
In response, Berbice’s openers made a steady start but were unable to convert their promising beginnings into significant contributions. Trevor Reynolds top-scored with 24, while Altaf Ali played a composed and unbeaten knock of 17 to guide his team through the latter stages of the chase.
With rain interrupting play, the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method came into effect. Berbice were 109 for 5 after 30 overs when the match was decided, handing them a five-wicket victory.
Ashton Collins tried valiantly for Demerara with figures of 3 for 38, but his efforts were not enough to prevent Berbice from lifting the Under-16 title in an entertaining final at Bourda.
