Captain of the Berbice Trophy Stall Senior Female Team, Shabika Gajnabi, continued to prove herself in a class by herself when she stroked an unbeaten 215 against the Select U-19 Team in a match played at the Everest Cricket Club ground yesterday.
Gajnabi slammed 25 fours and six maximums in her brutal knock in the opening round of the Guyana Cricket Board’s Superbet Senior Female Inter-County Tournament.
The Berbice Trophy Stall Female Team racked up 412-2 in 37.4 overs, with senior cricketer Tremayne Smartt also contributing an unbeaten 64 in the demolition job done by the Berbicians.
For the Select U-19 team, Jamie Campbell took 2-76 as she accounted for the wickets of Marian Samaroo (08) and Sherica Campbell (39), while Berbice’s opening batter Katana Mentore was run out for 25.
However, rain had the final say in this match, and the Select Under-19 Team did not get a chance to post a score.
And in a match played at Enmore, Demerara’s off-spinner Mandy Mangru spun webs around a jaded Essequibo team, who were bowled out for 18 runs scored in 13.3 overs.
Mangru bagged 5-2 in 3.3 overs, while skipper Akaze Thompson claimed 3-9 in three overs. Extras contributed seven, the top-score for Essequibo.
Demerara cruised to a nine-wicket win, with Mangru ending on six while Latoya Smith made seven.
The second round of play will be on Saturday, March 7, when the Berbice Trophy Stall will meet Essequibo at Enmore, while the Select U-19 Team will play Demerara at GCC, Bourda. (Brandon Corlette)
