Two men from Berbice were taken into custody on Thursday following the discovery of more than 45 pounds of cannabis during a targeted stop-and-search exercise along the Weldaad Public Road, West Coast Berbice (WCB).

The operation, carried out at approximately 15:40h in Regional Division Five (Mahaica-Berbice), resulted in the interception of a white Toyota Fielder waggon with two occupants. Law enforcement officers, acting on routine procedures, conducted a search of both the individuals and the vehicle.
During the search, it was reported that four bulky parcels were found concealed in the trunk of the vehicle. The parcels, wrapped in transparent plastic, were found inside two multi-coloured shopping bags and contained a substance comprising leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The driver, identified as a 28-year-old man from Timmers Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, and his passenger, a 20-year-old labourer also from New Amsterdam, were immediately arrested.
Both suspects, along with the motor vehicle and the suspected narcotics, were escorted to the Weldaad Police Station. There, the substance was weighed and amounted to 45.4 pounds.
The men remain in custody pending charges.
