Berbice High, Tutorial Academy claim Region 6 YBG regional titles

Berbice High School and Tutorial Academy were crowned champions when the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) Region Six “Ancient” Regional finals were played on Friday, June 19.
In the boys’ final, Berbice High defeated Skeldon Line Path Secondary School 34-28 to secure the regional title. Avion Kesney led the way with a strong performance, scoring 22 points and collecting three rebounds. He was named Player of the Game and Most Valuable Player (MVP) for his effort.
Kesney carried the scoring load for Berbice High, while Carlson Mattheson and Dontrell Ross provided important support. Mattheson finished with six points and 11 rebounds, while Ross added six points and seven rebounds to help his team close out the win.

Skeldon Line Path remained competitive throughout the contest, with Kellon Lyte scoring 11 points and Joel Sukhram adding eight points in the losing effort.
In the girls’ final, Tutorial Academy held off JC Chandisingh 13-9 to take the championship. Jada Alexander was named Player of the Game after producing six points and eight rebounds in a solid all-round performance.
Afiyah Hytmiah also played a key role for Tutorial Academy, contributing five points. For JC Chandisingh, Shaqueena Collins led the way with five points and four rebounds.
The Region 6 “Ancient” Regional formed part of YBG’s wider school basketball programme. The regionals are sponsored by Edward B Beharry Ltd, G-Boats Inc, the National Sports Commission, the Education Ministry, and Banks DIH Ltd.
