A 47-year-old labourer of No. 72 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, was taken into custody following the discovery of a firearm and several rounds of matching ammunition during an intelligence-led operation at No. 66 Village Backlands, Corentyne, Berbice, on Friday.

Police stated that acting on information received, ranks travelled to the area, where searches were carried out. During the exercise, two males were seen in a boat, and, upon seeing the Police, they escaped into nearby bushes.
A search was conducted on the abandoned boat, where a 16-gauge shotgun and 12 matching cartridges were found.

Meanwhile, the Police have arrested the labourer, who remains in custody pending investigations and charges.
