Twenty-five-year-old labourer Kevin Garraway of Lot 52 Onderneeming, WCB was reportedly attacked and chopped while visiting friends at Hopetown, but persons who allegedly witnessed the act are refusing to provide any information.
Guyana Times understands that after being chopped, the injured man was removed from the scene and taken to the head of the street; and persons who saw him lying on the roadway rushed him to the Fort Wellington Hospital, where he was treated and referred to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Garraway’s relatives explained that the suspect had stabbed him in Georgetown at the beginning of March in an incident that stemmed from an alleged robbery, and he had been hospitalized for his injuries. The matter had been reported at the Brickdam Police Station, but the suspect was never arrested. However, on Monday, it is believed that the suspect received information about Garraway’s whereabouts, and committed the act before fleeing the scene.
This suspect on Tuesday turned himself in to the custody of the Police at the Fort Wellington Police Station, accompanied by his lawyer.
“I was approached by the suspect, and he told me a couple of things which I am not at liberty to disclose,” the attorney stated. He was at the time speaking with reporters at the Fort Wellington Police Station.
“Because of his lack of sophistication, that he should not sign or say anything, and the Police will have to do what they have to do,” the lawyer stated.
Up to late Tuesday afternoon, a statement was yet to be taken from the suspect.
