Berbice, Lethem Police stations for multi-$M upgrades

Three Police Stations situated across the country are expected to undergo multi-million-dollar upgrades, according to Minister of State Joseph Harmon, who said Cabinet has approved the award of the contracts for the rehabilitation works.
Bids for these works were publicised in April and were opened the following month.
Two of the stations to be upgraded are situated in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) and the other in Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo).
The contract for the rehabilitation of the Springlands Police Station has been awarded to Gupta Engineering Enterprises to the tune of $18.7 million; while the contract for the rehabilitation of the Central Police Station in New Amsterdam has been awarded to Doodnauth Construction and Supplies at a cost of $29.7 million.
The Lethem Police Station will be rehabilitated by Navin and Sons Construction at the cost of $44.5 million.In his 2018 Budget presentation, Finance Minister Winston Jordan had announced that some six Police stations will be targeted for upgrade in 2018. Besides those mentioned above, Police stations at Cove and John and at Matthews Ridge are slated for rehabilitation, and a new Police station is slated for construction at La Parfaite Harmonie, intended to service the catchment area.
This year, rehabilitation works are also expected to be carried out on the GPF’s Mounted Branch/Steel Band building, the Female Barracks and Impact Base at Eve Leary, the #1 and #2 Living Quarters in the Mounted Branch compound, the Whim Barracks, the Lewis Manor Outpost in B Division, and the Living Quarters at the Albion Police Station, among others.
