Berbice male & female teams honoured

As a part of a promise made at its elections in February, the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) honoured its male under-19 and female senior teams Sunday last at its Brian Ramphal Annual Award Ceremony.

The male under-19 team copped a double championship, winning the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Three-Day and 50-Over Tournaments, while the female team won the 50-Over Inter-County title and were poised to take the T20 title had the competition not been cancelled owing to inclement weather. The Most Valuable Players (MVP) of each team were also honoured at the ceremony. MVPs Erva Giddings and Kevlon Anderson received a bicycle, trophy, and a medal.
BCB President Hilbert Foster hailed the two teams as true heroes of Berbice cricket and congratulated them on being outstanding ambassadors for the Ancient County. Touching on the lack of preparation that the Berbice teams suffered from in the past, Foster pledged that under his leadership, all Berbice inter-county teams would be properly prepared and provided with all the necessary tools to achieve success.

Former BCB President Anil Beharry also sang the team’s praises and urged them to take advantage of the opportunities being presented to them by the BCB. The BCB is currently aiming at organising cricket clinics for batsmen, wicket-keepers, off-spinners, leg-spinners and fast bowlers, in order to improve the skills within the county.
