Berbice man arrested for squibs, firecrackers in car trunk

Ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Monday arrested a man during patrol in Sheet Anchor village, East Canje, Berbice, after he was busted with a quantity of squibs in the trunk of his car.

A large quantity of firecrackers was seized during the search

The officers observed a silver-coloured motor car, PNN 5837, driven by a self-employed man of Whim Village at about 17:00h.
The GPF related that the driver was acting suspiciously, and as such the ranks stopped the car and asked him whether he had anything illegal in the vehicle. The driver responded “no’” the Police said on Tuesday.
However, the patrol officers proceeded to search the vehicle, where several boxes of squibs and firecrackers were found in the trunk. The driver, when questioned for a second time by the Police, claimed ownership of the items.
He was arrested and taken to the Central Police Station, where he was later released on $20,000 station bail. The seized items were photographed and lodged. (G12)
