Berbice man assaulted with hammer during disagreement

A 23-year-old male is now in Police custody after he reportedly attacked and assaulted his neighbour using a hammer, during a row over the laying of pipelines.
Police said the incident occurred on Wednesday at around 13:00h at No 51 Village, Corentyne, Berbice. They also reported that the victim is a 33-year-old-male.
Based on information received, the victim had laid some pipelines at his aunt’s home which is next door to the suspect’s. This, the Police stated, upset the suspect who accused the victim of digging up the area close to his yard.
This resulted in a heated argument between the two men during which the suspect allegedly took a hammer and dealt his neighbour one blow to his abdomen.
The victim was taken to Skeldon Public Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor and subsequently transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he was further treated.
The suspect was arrested and is presently in custody pending an investigation.
