Berbice man brutally chopped over misunderstanding
Fifty-six-year-old Lawrence Rodrigues, a labourer of Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne),
is now hospitalised at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, after being attacked and brutally chopped by another male, who was armed with a machete (cutlass).
The incident occurred on Friday at Rose Hall Town, and
Police say the suspect, a 26-year-old cane harvester of Rose Hall Town, had reportedly objected to Rodrigues removing the suspect’s bicycle from in front of his (suspect’s) house.
This resulted in the cane harvester becoming upset and arming himself with a cutlass before confronting Rodrigues on the road and dealing him several chops about his body.
While the brutal attack was captured on video, the victim was rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, before later being transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where his condition is listed as serious.
The matter was reported and the suspect has been arrested, and is in custody assisting with the investigation.
