Berbice man killed after tractor turns turtle

A Corentyne, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) tractor operator lost his life on Saturday when the machine he was operating turned turtle.

Dead is 50-year-old Ganeshwar Jahaman called “Ganesh” of Number 73 Village. The incident occurred at about 10:30h in the backlands of Number 72 Village.
Rice farmer Toural Singh told investigators that he was a short distance away in another rice field when he saw Jahaman’s tractor turning over. He said he immediately went to his rescue and discovered that the tractor pinned him and he was motionless.

Police were informed of the incident and arrived at the scene after manoeuvring the slippery terrain. Jahaman was rushed to the Skeldon Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
According to Jahaman’s cousin, Pamishwar, the now dead man was at the time preparing the field for the sowing of paddy seeds. He said his cousin left home at about 06:30h for work.
He said at about 10:30h he received a telephone call informing him of the incident.
“They say that he passed away because the whole tractor turn over with the wheels at the top and he was sitting in the tractor so, it pin him down in the mud. Only his foot was out and the rest of the body was under the tractor.”
He described his cousin, a father of one, as a friendly person who is well-known in the community.
