A 23-year-old man succumbed to injuries he sustained on Monday evening after he was stuck down in an apparent hit and run accident on the Moleson Creek Public Road in the Upper Corentyne, East Berbice, (Region Six: East Berbice-Corentyne).
Dead is Ron Thomas of Moleson Creek, Corentyne. Based on reports received, the now dead man had left his sibling’s house and was heading home when he was struck down by a speeding vehicle, which fled the scene thereafter.
Thomas was picked up and taken to the Skeldon Hospital, but due to the seriousness of his injuries, was transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Monday morning.
The car suspected to have been involved in the accident has been impounded, and the driver has been taken into Police custody to assist with the investigations.
This is the third fatal accident to have occurred over the weekend. On Sunday evening, 43-year-old Keshwardau Hackie of Lot 8 No 63 Village Corentyne, Berbice was struck down by a canter on the Number 64 Village Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.
It has been reported that the canter was proceeding north along the roadway while the motorcyclist was proceeding in the opposite direction. However, as the motorcyclist was attempting to ride into a dam, the front of the canter collided with him.
Also on Monday, 20-year-old Raphael Haly of Robb Street, Georgetown succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital following an accident in Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
The accident occurred on Sunday evening in Second Avenue Bartica. It has been reported that the former member of the 592 Bike Line had borrowed a “Chappy” motorcycle to purchase food, but as he was making his way to the restaurant, he allegedly failed to slow down at one of the speed bumps on the roadway and lost control of the bike. Having lost control, he reportedly slammed into a wall and crashed into a utility pole.
As a result of the impact, he sustained severe injuries to his head and body.
He was picked up and taken to the Bartica Regional Hospital, but due to the severity of his injuries, he was transferred to the GPHC, where he was admitted and placed on life support. He later succumbed to his injuries.
