Berbice man pinned to death by tractor

Rakesh Loojuene of Wellington Park, Corentyne, Region Six (East Berbice/Corentyne) is now dead after the tractor he had been using to plough a rice field in the said village flipped over and pinned him in the process on Thursday.

Dead: Rakesh Loojuene

Indra Loojuene, mother of this 47-year-old labourer, has said her daughter received a telephone call shortly after 11:00h on Thursday, indicating that Rakesh was pinned under a tractor. She said another sibling took his tractor and went into the backdam with others who had intended to help, but when they got to the location, the lifeless body of Rakesh was pulled from under the tractor that had pinned him.
It is believed that the back wheel of that tractor had fallen into a hole in the rice field, and that caused the machine to flip. Rakesh’s mother could not say how long her son has been working as a tractor operator, but noted that the last time she had seen him was two weeks ago.
“He always working. That is the work he does do; he does shy paddy. Once he not working, he does come here. About two weeks ago he come, and I give him food. Sometimes he would spend the whole day, and go back in the afternoon,” the grieving mother has said.
