Berbice man remanded following narco bust

A West Canje, Berbice mason was on Friday remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for possession of more than three kilograms of marijuana, which was unearthed by Police in New Amsterdam, Berbice.
Raymond Vankenay, 35, of Vryheid’s Lust, West Canje, denied the charge, which stated that he had in his possession 3.432 kilograms of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking on April 19, 2017.
The court heard that the case file was still incomplete owing to several outstanding statements inclusive of an analysis report.
The matter was transferred to the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court. The case will continue on May 8.
