Berbice man shot while chasing after robber

A 29-year-old man who went after a suspected bandit after he snatched his gold chain was in the wee hours of Sunday shot and injured.
Damion McKenzie also called “Tuckman” of Brighton Village, Corentyne, Berbice, was reportedly shot to his right thigh by the armed robber, who discharged several rounds in his direction. Police preliminary investigations revealed that at about 02:15h on the day in question, the victim was dancing with a female at a social event when the suspect allegedly approached him from behind and grabbed the two gold chains that he was wearing at the time.
The chains reportedly valued in excess of $1.5 million.
However, after snatching the jewellery, the suspect started to run but McKenzie gave chase. Nevertheless, the man managed to escape through a clump of bushes but not before discharging three rounds in the direction of the victim.
After being shot, the injured man was rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital where he was treated and referred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital for further treatment.
The shooting incident was reported to the Police who have launched an investigation. Police, according to reports received, have detained the organisers of the Barbeque for breaching the COVID-19 guidelines.
