Berbice taxi driver died from stab wounds – PM confirms

…suspect allegedly said dispute stemmed from row over cell phone
A post-mortem examination conducted on Wednesday confirmed that taxi driver Oswin Lawson died from multiple stab wounds.

Dead: Oswin Lawson

The examination was performed by Government Pathologist Dr Vivekanand Brijmohan, who gave the cause of death as multiple incised stab wounds resulting in haemorrhage and collapsed lungs.
Lawson, 41, of Lot 46 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), died early Tuesday morning after the vehicle he was driving plunged into a canal along the Edinburgh Public Road, East Bank Berbice.
Initial reports suggested that Lawson had lost control of the vehicle, collided with a roadside stand and ended up submerged in the canal. However, investigators later discovered that the driver had sustained several stab wounds before the crash occurred.
Police have since arrested the brother of Lawson’s fiancée, who reportedly admitted to inflicting the injuries during a confrontation. Investigators said the suspect has since provided a statement outlining his involvement, and legal advice is now being sought.

According to information gathered during the investigation, Lawson and his fiancée became involved in an argument after he allegedly accused her of infidelity. Investigators were told that Lawson had taken possession of the woman’s cell phone with the intention of going through its contents.
The woman, who operates a business, reportedly objected, resulting in a confrontation between the couple. During the altercation, her brother allegedly intervened and stabbed Lawson several times to the chest.
Despite his injuries, Lawson drove away from the scene before the vehicle and, shortly after, crashed into the canal at Edinburgh.
