A 29-year-old man is presently in Police custody for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl on Saturday in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
Police stated that on the day in question at about 10:50h, the victim left home and went to make a purchase at a nearby shop. However, as she was on her way home, the suspect attacked her from behind, pulled her into a clump of bushes and forcibly committed the act.
As a result, the victim started to scream during which a male passer-by raised an alarm which caused the victim to escape.
The victim was seen and examined medically by a doctor while the suspect was contacted, told of the offence committed, cautioned, arrested and placed in custody pending further investigation.
