The Berbice Cricket Board of Control in conjunction with its parent body, The Guyana Cricket Board, will host the national Under 13 team from the twin island Republic of Trinidad & Tobago in a 40 Overs match at the Port Mourant Community Center Ground on Saturday December 16, 2017 starting at 10:00h.
President of the Berbice Cricket Board in a comment said that this is a giant step towards youth cricket development for Berbicians, since a junior game of this caliber will act as an impetus for those youths who are contemplating a career in cricket. He further stated that his administration intends to explore all avenues to develop cricket at all levels in the county; this initiative is just one of many. He is encouraging all Clubs in Berbice, and Guyana as a whole to invest in Junior cricket, since the future lies in the hands of the youths. The Berbice Cricket Board is extremely pleased to participate in this game and will be continuing intensive youth and senior programs in the months ahead. He expressed his gratitude, on behalf of his Executives, to the Guyana Cricket Board for their herculean role in the development of cricket in Guyana.
Chairman of Selectors, Leslie Solomon, has identified 32 youths from Clubs around Berbice and has involved them in training for the past two weeks, in preparation for this feature game. Physical fitness drills, game scenarios, batting and fielding drills are the key elements of the camp, and the youths have been showing steady progress. He expressed confidence that the Berbice team will be a force to reckon with.
A trial match was held at the Jai Hind Ground in Albion last Saturday to test the skills of the youths. Opening batsman Rampertab Ramnauth of the Port Mourant Cricket Club was magnificent as he scored a brilliant 107 in his innings while Christopher De Roop took three wickets. Matthew Pottaya, Rudra Goberdhan, Niquan Samuels and Lakhraj Boodram took one wicket each. Tameshwar Mangal scored 43 in his innings.
The shortlisted players for the Berbice squad are: Rampertab Ramnauth, Altaf Balman, Veer Fathad, Ryan France, Avishkar Persaud, Tameshwar Mangal, Rampersaud Ramnauth, Matthew Pottaya, Rudra Goderdhan, Damian Cecil, Niquan Samuels, Isia Thorne, Dwayne Williams, Lakraj Boodram, Christopher DeRoop, Abdul Munroe, Latchman Danan, Tomani Ceasar, Mark Ramalho and Darius Joseph.
