Berbice woman busted with ganja at roadblock

A 39-year-old woman of East Canje Berbice was on Saturday arrested after being intercepted with more than 2 kilograms of ganja at Fort Wellington, West Coast Berbice (WCB).
The Police have said that, at about 15:35h on the day in question, ranks who were on road block duties along the Fort Wellington Public Road stopped a minibus, during which a search was conducted on the suspect, who was a passenger.
Three wrapped parcels containing the cannabis were found in a travelling bag belonging to the woman. The ganja, when weighed, amounted to 2721.5 grams.
The woman was then told of the offence, cautioned, and arrested. However, upon her arrest, the woman claimed that she was at home when an identifiable male of New Amsterdam and a female cop attached to the Central Police Station gave her the bag to take to Abary. She reportedly told the Police that the duo planned to be at the location to uplift the bag.
Upon receiving this information, checks were made for the duo, but up to late Sunday, no arrest was made. Investigations are ongoing.
