Thirty-nine-year-old Bibi Azimulla of Lot 916 New Area, East Berbice Corentyne, appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts after being slapped with a corrupting transaction charge.
It is alleged that on November 19, 2018, at the Police Clearance Department, Eve Leary, she offered Leslyn Halley Smith, an agent employed by the state, the sum of $20,000 as a reward or inducement to omit a previous conviction on the certificate of character of her brother, Azaad Azimulla.
The unrepresented woman denied the charge. Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh made no objections to bail. Magistrate Daly released Azimulla on $50,000 bail.
The case will continue on January 2, 2019.
