Berbice woman nabbed with abducted baby

A Corentyne, Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) woman was arrested on Friday after she was found with a baby, who was reported missing early in March.
The 50-year-old woman was arrested after Police swooped down on her Kildonan Village, Corentyne home.
Regional Commander of Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), Linden Lord confirmed that a report of kidnapping of the 11-month-old female child was lodged with the police. He said that the child’s 24-year-old mother is a Venezuelan. On March 5, she reported to Police that the 50-year-old woman worked with her at the Quart Stone Backdamn in Cuyuni.
However, the child became sick and the Venezuelan mother asked her employee to take her child to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for treatment, but she never returned.
“The 11-month-old baby apparently had spots on her skin, and she gave the woman the baby to take to the hospital and she was supposed to return in two weeks but that did not happen,” the Commander said.
After Gomes did not return with the child, the matter was reported to the Bartica Police Station.
Commander Lord said after the police received information that the suspect resides at Corentyne, Berbice, ranks acting on information swooped down on her home. He said that she has since confessed to the crime.
“The woman was arrested, a thorough investigation was done and we sent the file for legal advice on the way forward,” the Commander said.
The child was identified and returned to the mother on Friday.
