A Corentyne, Berbice housewife accused of killing her husband was on Wednesday slapped with a manslaughter charge and appeared at the Number 51 Magistrate’s Court.
Dhannmatie Seenarine, also called “Sisto” or “Nurse”, of Lot 52 Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore. The 52-year-old woman is accused of killing her husband on February 26.
It is alleged that on February 26, at Port Mourant, she killed 41-year-old Anthony Permaul, called “Banks” or “Banko”, of Clifton Settlement Port Mourant. She was charged under section 94 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act Chapter 8:01.
Bail was granted in the sum of $150,000 and the matter will continue on March 19 at the Whim Magistrate’s Court.
It had been reported that Permaul and Seenarine had been living in a common-law relationship for several years. On the day in question, the couple were imbibing at their premises during which they had a misunderstanding which turned into an argument.
Permaul reportedly assaulted Seenarine who then picked up a cutlass and chopped him. He was taken to the Port Mourant Hospital the following day and subsequently transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he subsequently died.
