Berbice woman strangled to death

– son is prime suspect

A West Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) woman was on Thursday morning found dead at her Lot 4 Number 3 Village home.
Dead is Tashwattie Jaglall also called “Babo”, former Assistant Overseer of the Rosignol/Zee Lust Neighbourhood Democratic Council.
The woman is believed to have been strangled. Her only son who is the prime suspect has since been taken into custody.
He claimed that his mother was murdered by three men who invaded the property.
Reports are that the man raised an alarm by shouting that his mother was strangled but Police took him into custody after residents in the area reported that he frequently physically abused his mother.

A neighbour, Indrowti Ramlochan, recalled that the woman was screaming on Wednesday evening.
“Since they lived there, he and the wife had some problem and the wife burn herself and died. Now the mother has to take care of the two children. He does work in the nights and he does drink a lot of rum. He does beat the mother and she does holler. People say that they see him dragging the mother down the step day before yesterday and last night [Wednesday] my neighbour – a small boy call me and ask me if I am not going to see what happen to Auntie ‘Babo’ because she hollering,” the woman revealed while noting that she did not venture out of her home.
She recalled that on several occasions the woman showed her marks of violence on her body after beatings from her son.
Reports are that the woman was lying on her back with what appeared to be marks of violence when the body was found.
Another resident, Tarmattie Sookraj, said, “I just saw the woman lying on the ground and she had wounds on her body and she was in her nightgown.”
According to Sookraj, the suspect claimed that he found his mother dead when he arrived home from work.
“He come over and tell me that three persons go in and kill his mother last night and he ask me if I hear anything and I tell him ‘No’. I asked him if he called the Police and he said that one of them boys already call the Police. He say that he went to work at 10 o’clock and when he come home he find she dead.”
When asked, Sookraj said that the suspect claimed that his five-year-old-daughter told him that three men had entered the house.
Police have since launched an investigation.
