One day after he was struck down by a motor car along the Better Hope Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD), a pedestrian succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday. Dead is 64-year-old Sahadeo Balgobin of De Souza Street, Better Hope, ECD.
Police stated the accident reportedly occurred at about 18:15h and involved a motor car bearing registration number HB 7962.
Based on information received, the car was proceeding along the Better Hope Public Road, ECD, when the pedestrian reportedly ran across the road and into the path of the motor car, thus causing a collision.
The pedestrian ended up on the car’s bonnet and windscreen, then onto the road’s surface where he received injuries to his head and other parts of his body.
The driver of the motor car along with public-spirited citizens picked up the unresponsive pedestrian and took him to the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit (A&E) where he was treated for a broken left leg and admitted.
Nevertheless, despite the efforts of medical personnel at the institution to resuscitate Balgobin, he took his last breath on Tuesday morning at about 09:30h.
The driver of the motor car was arrested and a breathalyser test was administered, but there were no traces of alcohol in his system. Investigations into the fatal accident are continuing.
