− Masters Academy hand BHS a stuttering start
The Bishops’ High School hopes of having a positive start in this year’s Petra Organised Milo under-18 Schools Football Championships received a set back as they went down to Masters Academy 3-1 on Saturday at the Ministry of Education Ground, Carifesta after James Walcott scored a brace.
The Carmichael Street unit took the early lead when the talented Darin Chan breached the opposition’s defence in the 5th minute but the Masters responded
when James Walcott found the equaliser in the 12th minute. The action packed first half ended 1-1 and a tantalizing second 35 minutes was anticipated.
Three minutes into the second half Walcott etched his name on the score sheet again; teammate Teon Vankenic then laid the final nail in the coffin in the 59th.
Meanwhile, North Ruimveldt and St. Joseph High played to a 1-1 draw with Jerren Shepherd netting in the 61st for St. Joseph’s while Omar Sinclair equalized in the 66th.
The other match brought an anti-climax to proceedings as St. Rose’s won via walkover from Houston Secondary and likewise defending champions Chase Academy won identical fashion against Freeburg Secondary.
Action will continue today at the same venue from 11:00h when Lodge Secondary clash with St. Mary’s Secondary followed by Kingston Secondary and East Ruimveldt from 12:30hrs.
Tucville Secondary will then play St, John’s College from 14:00h then the headline match in Morgan Learning Centre and Charlestown Secondary from 15:30h.
The placement of teams into group sees Group A comprising of: BHS, St Roses High, St. Winefred Secondary and Huston Secondary; Group B: North Ruimveldt Secondary, Chase Academy, St. Joseph High and Freeburg Secondary; Group C: Lodge Secondary, St. Marry’s High, East Ruimveldt Secondary and Group D: Tucville Secondary, Morgan’s Learning Centre, St. John’s Secondary and Charlestown Secondary.
Group E contains Richard Ishmael Secondary, Christ Church Secondary, Brickdam Secondary and Cummings Lodge Secondary; Group F: South Ruimveldt Secondary, Sir Leon’s Lesson, Queenstown Secondary and Carmel Secondary; Group G: North Georgetown, Central High, School of the Nations and Dolphin Secondary and Group H: Mae’s Secondary, St. George’s Secondary, Tutorial High and Queen’s College.
Much is at stake for the top teams with trophies and cash payouts of $500,000 for the winner, $300,000 for first runner up and $200,000 and $100,000 for third and fourth placed teams respectively which will go towards various school projects.
