A security officer was relieved of his .38 Taurus revolver along with six rounds of ammunition on Sunday at Plaisance, East Coast Demerara (ECD). The incident reportedly occurred at about 11:10h.
Based on reports received, the 29-year-old male security officer, who is a shift commander and employed by a private security company, was in the company’s vehicle when it encountered mechanical problems.
As such, both the driver and the officer exited the vehicle to check on the tyres.
At the time, the officer was carrying the firearm, fully loaded, in his right-side pants pocket and was bending over to check the tyres when he felt the firearm being pulled out of his pocket.
As he turned around, he saw an identifiable suspect on a pedal cycle riding away with the firearm in his possession. The officer immediately alerted his colleague and they gave chase behind the suspect, who managed to escape.
