A mason who stole a bicycle was on Thursday jailed when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
John Cameron was on trial before Senior Magistrate Dylon Bess and was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for stealing a bicycle.
The 20-year-old mason had initially denied the charge which stated that on June 8, 2019, at North Road, Bourda, Georgetown, he stole one bicycle valued $22,500 from Marlon Walcott.
However, when the matter was called on Thursday, Cameron changed his not guilty plea to guilty.
The prosecution’s case contended that on June 8 at about 08:00h, the Virtual Complainant rode his bicycle to his workplace and parked it. However, upon returning a few hours later, he noticed the bicycle missing.
The matter was reported and CCTV footage in the area was examined. Cameron was seen removing the bicycle and as such, Police arrested him.
The Magistrate, after listening to the facts, sentenced him to six months behind bars and placed him on a bond to keep the peace for one year.
