The opening day of the first three-day match at the Guyana National Stadium at Providence did not commence until 15:30h, because there was moisture in the pitch.

Tevin Imlach survived 97 balls in his unbeaten 23

Only 34 overs of play were possible, and Anthony Adams’ XI ended the day on 80-2. Returning leggie Devandra Bishoo has thus far impressed with 2-26, getting purchase out of pitch which had little carry for the seamers.
Earlier, openers Tevin Imlach and Raymond Perez took centre stage for Anthony Adams’ XI in gloomy conditions, after Leon Johnson XI took the field. Right arm seamers Keon Joseph and Chris Barnwell began proceedings for Johnson’s XI, but after six overs of cautious batting, spin was introduced in the form of Veerasammy Permaul.
The right-handed Perez in particular was on a mission to rotate the strike and put away the loose deliveries. After one hour into the game, Devandra Bishoo was introduced at the Player’s Pavilion end. He got the ball to zip, and was rewarded with the wicket of Perez. The right-handed Perez played back and edged one into Anthony Bramble’s gloves after scoring 24 and with the score on 47-1.
As the pitch continued to offer support to spinners, Kevin Sinclair was introduced while Bishoo switched ends but continued to hit testing lengths.
Kemol Savory, batting at number three for Adams’ XI, was troubled by Bishoo in the initial stage of his innings. After negotiating the spin threat from both ends, Savory broke the shackles with a four up and over mid-off of Sinclair.
Bishoo continued to chip away, and breached the defense of Savory, who was adjudged leg before for 18 scored from 48 balls.
With the score on 74-2 after 30.5 overs, and with the clock ticking at 17:20h, Nial Smith came to play the role of night watchman. He and Imlach survived the spin trio of Bishoo, Permaul and Sinclair to end the day on 80-2 after 34 overs.
Bishoo, who is returning to the fold after nursing an injury, has bowled 10 overs and returned figures of 2-26.

Leon Johnson’s XI celebrates a wicket

Imlach survived 97 balls in his unbeaten innings of 23, which included a consolation boundary. Smith is unbeaten on five for Adams XI.
