Victory, you finally answered our call,
To help Guyanese, the dictators had to fall,
Now it is time to rebuild with strength and unity,
Our country will develop, we need progress and prosperity.
Victory, it was a long time and you were so elusive,
But the world stood by us and was very cooperative,
For 5 months we waited and lived in fear,
Until the hands of justice said that freedom is near.
Victory, we will now treasure you until the end,
But a helping hand every one must lend,
Guyanese will again stand tall and proud,
Singing our anthem ever so loud.
Victory, you came to us so bitter but sweet,
Citizens are now celebrating in every street,
Cheddi’s fight was never in vain,
Democracy will prevail despite the pain.
Victory, you taught us the way to cooperate,
And that peace we must always demonstrate,
We are one people, one nation, one destiny,
Our progress is now for the world to see.
