Blankenburg Gas Station robbed $1.2M

Police in D Division (West Bank Demerara-East Bank Essequibo) have detained one suspect in connection with a brazen daylight robbery at the Fuel Care Gas Station in Blankenburg, West Coast Demerara that occurred on Wednesday afternoon. This was confirmed by Divisional Commander Leslie James who indicated that the details were still being ironed out.
While investigations into the matter are continuing, Guyana Times was able to ascertain that the incident occurred around 14:00h when four unmasked men entered the business place and startled the female attendant at the service station’s store.
Reports are that the proprietor was tied up and did not resist the bandits as they demanded cash and valuables. Thereafter, the men reportedly made off with her mobile phone, phone cards and jewellery.
It was stated that over $1.2 million in losses was incurred while a source indicated that the attack could have brought on by a person or persons known to the proprietor.
This newspaper was told that ranks from the nearby Den Amstel Police Station were prompt on the scene which led to the arrest of one suspect who is currently in custody. While it is not yet clear as to what kind of weapons were used during the ordeal, Guyana Times understands that a description of at least one of the men was provided to Police.
