Blairmont Floodlight Cup Reload was deemed a success by the executives. Although there were heavy rainfall throughout Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning with good drainage and with high quality covers the games started 11:00h.
Matches were reduced to eight overs a side from 10 and there were lots to cheer for at the beautiful Blairmont Community Centre ground on Sunday.
There was a good turnout of spectators who were also entertained and informed with ball by ball coverage by international commentator Inderjeet Persaud and deejay Hakeem.
The ground was electric with spectators using their air-horns to contribute to the excitement at every boundary or wicket. There was a spectator, Arshad Khan supporting the Cold Fusion team that left everyone at the ground in awe when he took a one handed catch and was instantly rewarded with $10,000 compliments of the Blairmont Cricket Club. Ten teams started the competition but it was the host and Cotton Tree Die hard that played the final under lights. After being inserted Blairmont Blazers posted 96/2 from eight overs with opening batsman Martin Singh hitting 54 not out from 26 deliveries (6X4 4×3). Parmanand Ramdhan and Nick Ramsaroop contributed 13 each.
The pick of the bowlers was Pooran Persaud taking 1-23. Cotton Tree Die Hard (CTDH) started the chase very aggressively were 32/0 after 2 overs. Waqar Hassan (3-24) and Kassim Khan (2-12) restricted CTDH to 55/5 after the seventh over. Pooran Persaud blasting 31 off 16 (4×4; 2×6), after his dismissal in the 5th over Cotton Tree never seem to recover and were eventually restricted to 64/5. Blazers took the honours with the 32-run victory.
Martin Singh (Blazers) made a sweep of the prizes including Man of the Match in Final, Player of the Tournament and batsman hitting the most sixes. Kassim Khan (Blazers) pick up the most wickets (5 scalps) from 3 matches and R. Seecharran (Kendell’s Union) had the best bowler of an over picking up 4wkts for 4 runs. In the Domino Competition, first place went to Gold followed by Fine Ants and Royals. The king Domino was won by Ken from Blairmont Settlement.
