Boat bursts into flames, sinks in Moruca River

…injured captain, sailor rescued

Two persons are now patients at the Suddie Hospital in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) after the boat in which they were travelling went up in flames while on the Moruca River in Region One (Barima-Waini).
According to Police reports, Ramesh Maniram was captaining the vessel, named “Three Brothers”, and there were four sailors on board when it burst into flames. Maniram and a sailor, Ventle Jainarine, are currently warded at the Suddie Hospital, nursing injuries to their lower limbs as a result of the fire.
The incident occurred at about 10:00h, when a loud explosion was heard in the vicinity of the engine room. The fire quickly spread to other parts of the boat, resulting in the men being forced to abandon ship.
The names of the other sailors are yet to be released. Police investigations are ongoing.
