Body at Yarrowkabra: Burnt remains suspected to be those of missing WBD man

Hours after Police reported that they found the remains of a human at Snake Farm, Yarrowkabra along the Linden-Soesdyke Highway, it was reported that they are suspected to be those of 47-year-old Marc Melville, a welder of Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara who has been reported missing.
According to reports received, the burnt remains were found in a clump of bushes by several boys who were traversing the area.

Missing: Marc Melville

The charred skeleton was located about 200 feet north of the entrance leading to the South Dakota Circuit from the Linden-Soesdyke Highway.
Next to the remains, Crime Scene Investigators found a pair of Air Jordan sneakers which appeared to be unburnt with one of the victim’s feet still intact.
In addition, they found a Seiko wristwatch, the blade of a knife, two screwdrivers, one USB phone charger cable, and a bunch of eight keys. The keys appeared to be those for a door lock and padlock.
The items were found close to the burnt remains.
A team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters and ranks from Regional Division 4B conducted additional searches in the area during which several other pieces of human bones were recovered.
Further, a fire heap was carefully sifted through by ranks and they were able to recover two Barbadian one-dollar coins, a piece of a leather belt, and pieces of a pair of Blue Urban Star Denim Jeans.
From all indications, investigators said, the remains had to be those of a male.
Melville reportedly left home on August 28 and did not return home. His mother, Avira Melville had told the media that on the day her son went missing, she attempted to call his phone, but it went unanswered.
However, upon reading the news about the burnt remains found, his family went to the Police and from all indications, they believe they are Melville’s.
In an interview with the man’s sister, Amanda Henry, on Wednesday, she said that all the items that were found at the scene, including the Jordan shoes, belonged to her brother.
“The key matched his bedroom door lock; it is opening the lock of his bedroom door. The knife is his own, the watch is his own…that is how we know that that is him,” she said.
The woman said that her brother had lived with his children and his child’s mother, and had left his home to go to the bank to take out his salary, and never returned.
“He lived in his room, and she [his child’s mother] live in her room, because they currently have a dispute over the division of property… he never talked about having problems with anybody else besides his daughter’s boyfriend.
“He went home one time and he reached him there in the house, and he talked to him about going there, but other than that, I don’t know anything more about him having any issue with anyone,” Henry explained.
She said while family members were still trying to put the pieces together to figure out how Melville lost his life, they were told that the father of three was bludgeoned, stuffed in a suitcase, and lit a fire at the scene. She said that they were also trying to figure out how he got to Yarrowkabra.
“Even though the key match his room and so on, we will still move forward to get a DNA test to confirm that that is his body. This has left us very hurt. We can’t sleep, we cannot concentrate, it isn’t easy right now for the family… this is so sad,” his sister related.
“He doesn’t deserve something like this, and what made it worse is that they leave nothing for him to remember him like we know he was. What they are giving us there [the body], I don’t know what we are going to do [with] it.”
The family is calling on those in authority to help put the pieces of the puzzle together, to bring swift justice.
“I am looking forward to the Police and the President and everybody to look into this matter, so that we can get justice. He was not a bad person…we need everyone who can help us in any way with information to help give us the justice we need for our brother,” Henry said. (G9)
