Body fished out of New Amsterdam trench identified

A body which was discovered floating in a trench in vicinity of the National Psychiatric Hospital in New Amsterdam last Wednesday has been identified as that of Lakers Beharry of East Canje, Berbice.
The younger brother of the deceased, Parmand Beharry, reportedly showed up at the New Amsterdam Hospital mortuary and positively identified the body.
Guyana Times understands that the 52-year-old Lakers had been a patient of the mental facility and was reported missing on Monday. A missing person’s report was subsequently filed at the Central Police Station by authorities of the psychiatric hospital.
Two days thereafter, the man’s lifeless body was spotted in the trench, and the Police were summoned.
Investigations are still ongoing to determine the circumstances associated with Lakers’ death, but the body is currently at the New Amsterdam Hospital mortuary, where a post mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted this week.
