Body found near D’Urban Park on Mash Night

Persons who turned up for Guyana’s 50th Republic anniversary celebrations were left in a state of shock after they discovered the body of a man lying facedown along Haley Street near the D’Urban Park venue.
The dead man has been identified as 59-year-old Cyril Harold of Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).
Reports are that about 20:45h on Sunday, a number of persons were walking along Haley Street, imbibing and chatting when they noticed a ‘bulk’ a short distance away.
Upon drawing closer, they realised that it was a man’s body, and quickly alerted Police.
Guyana Times understands that the man was picked up and rushed to the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) on site at D’Urban Park, where Mashramani celebrations were ongoing, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Speaking with this publication, Police Commander of Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) Sub-division A (Georgetown), Assistant Police Commissioner Edgar Thomas said that there was no indication of foul play.
He added that when Police ranks arrived at the scene, the man was fully clothed and his identification (ID) card, cash, jewellery and cellular phone were still on his person.
Commander Thomas pointed out that based on the contact list in the now dead man’s phone, investigators have made contact with his relatives.
“Right now, we are treating his death as that of a natural one. That is, until a post-mortem examination (PME) proves or concludes otherwise. However, investigations into the matter are ongoing,” he added.
