Body of drowned teenager recovered

The body of 15-year-old Adyemi Azeez, who went missing during an outing with friends on Thursday, was on Saturday morning pulled from the Essequibo River.
Azeez, of Johanna Cecilia, Essequibo Coast (Pomeroon-Supenaam), reportedly disappeared while swimming at the Onderneeming Beach.
His body was discovered among some rocks a short distance from where he went under the water and never resurfaced.

Guyana Times was told that the now dead teen and seven of his friends went on an outing at a friend’s house at Onderneeming. There, they reportedly cooked and hung out for a while after which they went for a swim at the nearby beach.
It was reported that the teenagers were swimming in the rough waters and due to the oceanic current, the lads were pulled further into the river.
Upon realising their plight, Azeez and his friends called out for assistance. The other friends who were on land reportedly went to their rescue and were able to pull three of them to safety but Azeez disappeared under the murky water.
The incident was reported to the Suddie Police Station and after several hours of searching, the teen’s body was discovered.

His body was taken to the Suddie Hospital Mortuary and is awaiting a post-mortem.
