Home News Body of fisherman found floating in Berbice canal
Tilach Nateram, called ‘Boy’, or ‘Rice’, a fisherman of No. 4 Settlement, Blairmont, West Bank Berbice, is suspected to have drowned at some time on Friday in a canal in the area.
According to reports, Nateram had been an alcoholic and had suffered from epilepsy. He had last been seen alive consuming alcohol in the village at about 17:30h on Friday. At about 23:45h on Friday, a sluice attendant found Nateram’s motionless body floating in the canal near the sluice.
At the time of the discovery, his face was submerged.
His body, clad in a pair of short red pants, was taken out of the canal and examined for suspected marks of violence, but none was found.
Persons in the area were questioned, and information received was that the deceased would usually set seine in the said canal.
A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted on Nateram’s body on Monday as investigations continue into his demise.
