Body of psychiatric patient found in abandoned house

The body of a patient of the National Psychiatric Hospital situated at Fort Canje, Berbice was on Monday morning discovered at an abandoned house at Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
The dead man has been identified only as Porter.

February 4 to collect his public assistance but never returned.
This publication understands that Porter was discharged from the institution a few weeks ago but no one went to collect him and as such, he remained there.
“He was in an open ward and not considered as being mentally ill,” Director of Health Services, Jevaughn Stephen told Guyana Times on Monday.
Stephen said Porter was allowed to leave to collect his public assistance on a monthly basis and had always returned.
There was an official report of him being missing.
The body was discovered at an abandoned house which was previously used as a watch house for a quarrying company in New Amsterdam. The building has not been in use for more than two years and is situated two miles away from the National Psychiatric Hospital
The police are investigating.
