Bomb scare forces evacuation of conference centre

…Public Works Ministry year end brief postponed

Just as the Public Works Ministry was about to commence its year end press conference on Tuesday, a bomb threat at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre forced officials to postpone the briefing and evacuate the building.
Public Works Minister Juan Edghill and Minister within the Public Works Ministry Deodat Indar arrived at the ACCC, Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown, where they were joined by other officials.
Entities that operate under the Ministry include the Work Services Group, Maritime Administration Department, Guyana Civil Aviation Authority, Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Demerara Harbour Bridge Corporation, Government Electrical Inspectorate, Canawaima Ferry Services Incorporated, Transport and Harbours Department and Aerodromes.
However, attendees and the media were asked to immediately exit the building and subsequently told that the press conference would be rescheduled to a later date. Following the evacuation, the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) and Guyana Police Force (GPF) arrived on the scene to investigate. A sniffer dog was also used to sweep sections of the compound to detect any explosives.
Just a few days ago, there was a reported bomb scare at the Finance Ministry. After the building was evacuated, the building was combed but nothing was unearthed. This Ministry had also reported a similar threat back in March.
Another notable bomb scare was reported during the March 2020 General and Regional Elections at the Region Four Command Centre, Ashmins Building on High and Hadfield Streets. However, over the years, such incidents have been reported at the Guyana Revenue Authority, both private and public city schools and other Government agencies.
