Boodie, Yadram, Imlach, Narine highlight first round of Amerith Rocky Rai Memorial T20 Cricket
The action continued in the Amerith Rocky Rai Memorial T20 Cricket on the West Coast of Demerara. It saw Kevon Boodie, Bashkar Yadram, Tavin Imlach and Ganesh Narine highlighting the first round of play in the tournament.
The first match commenced at the Meten-Meer-Zorg West Ground, and Leguan beat Omesh XI by 135 runs. Batting first, Leguan scored 284 – 5 from the 20 overs. Openers, national player Kevon Boodie and Bashkar Yadram, put on a 267 opening stand. Boodie scored 149 runs, which included 14 fours and 14 sixes; while Yadram scored 118 runs, with 9 fours and 11 sixes. Bowling for Omesh XI, Ganesh Narine grabbed a helmet trick – 4 for 37 from his four overs.
In reply, Omesh XI were bowled out for 148 runs in 16.3 overs, with Mark Gonsalves top scoring with 36 runs, which included 4 fours and 1 six; R. Adams scored 35 runs, and Safraz Karim made 25 runs. Bowling for Leguan, Jason Heyliger took 3- 25, Yadram 3-15 and Raydon Austin 2- 28.
The other match at Meten-Meer-Zorg saw Meten-Meer-Zorg Future Youths crushing Dynasty by 105 runs. Batting first, Meten-Meer-Zorg Future Youths scored 205 for 5 from the 20 overs. National youth keeper Tavin Imlach top scored with 108 runs not out, and was supported by Sheldon Alexander with 52 runs and Jermain Maxwell’s 21 runs. Bowling for Dynasty, Devindra Ramdihol took 2-24 and Erick Sukrah 2-49.
Dynasty were bowled out for 96 runs. Yougesh Singh top scored with 26 runs. Bowling for Meten-Meer-Zorg Future Youths, Maxwell returned with the ball to grab 3-31, and Alexander supported with 2-12 for the winners.
At Zeeburg Sports Ground, Zeeburg beat Meten-Meer-Zorg Cricket Club by 135 runs. Batting first, Zeeburg scored 219 for 4 in 17.5 overs declared. Former national youth Player Kemol Savory top scored with 57 runs not out, Malcolm Hubbard scored 47 runs, Balbinder Shivpersaud 29 runs, and Ronald Renee 24 runs, all contributing with the bat.
In reply Meten-Meer-Zorg Cricket Club could only reach 84 runs, as Rabindra Dasrat top scored with 32 runs. Bowling for Zeeburg, Andre Seepersaud was very economical, returning figures of 3-16, with support from Mark Jeffers of 2-12.
At Canal # 2 Ground, Rising Stars A beat Sports Club by 57 runs. Batting first, Rising Star scored 146 all out in 18.3 overs, as Anand Bharat top scored with 33 runs and Nickosi Major supporting with 29 runs. There were two wickets each for Daniel Barker (2-29), Teekayam George (2-36), Satesh Bisram (2-10) and Naipul Sundar (2-15).
In reply, Sports Club players were bowled out for 87 runs, with Corwin Austin top scoring with 26 runs and Amir Mustapha 13 runs. Bowling for Rising Stara A, Marvin Cheong was the pick of the bowlers with 4-3.
The other match at the same venue saw Sports Club beat Rising Stars B by 100 runs. Batting first, Canal #2 SC scored 146 runs all out in 19 overs. Taijnauth Jadunauth top scored with 35 runs, Vishwanauth Jadunauth scored 30, and Anthony Ifill supported with 23 runs. Bowling for Rising Stars B, Chris Naipaul took 2-14 and Vishal Persaud 2-27 as the best bowlers with the ball.
In reply, the host dismissed Rising Star B for 46 runs. Vishal Persaud, batting at number 8, top scored with 18 runs, as no other batsman reached double figures. The wickets were shared between Narendra Persaud 2-10, Sidieq Sulaman 3-7, Ghansham Mahabal 2-13 and Vishwanauth Jadunauth 2-8.
According to Organizer Troy Khan, the mining company is currently looking to have similar tournaments played in Berbice and Georgetown. He also stated that this present tournament is not being facilitated by the West Demerara Board, and that several matches are set to continue this weekend.
