Botafago, Eagles claim finale spots

Divine Entertainment Summer Super Cup…

After a gruelling affair, Botafago nudged out Net Rockers on sudden death, but Eagles United wasted no time in dismissing Capital FC 3-0 following a hat-trick from Colwyn Drakes, when the semifinals of the first ever Divine Entertainment Summer Super Cup football competition was played on Sunday night at the Mackenzie Sports Club.

The first encounter was a ding-dong affair, as evidenced by the sudden death tie-breaker. It summed up the vicissitudes of the match, as the Rockers were able to take the initiative after a penalty came their way in the 15th minute following a dangerous foul on one of their players.
Deshawn Joseph was calm in sending the Rockers ahead 1-0; and Shane Luckie, who got a double in this game, nailed his first from a squared ball in the 13th minute to make it 2-nil.
Botafgao countered somewhat, and were able to get their first goal from a drive from Duquan Hercules in the 24th minute. They then secured the equaliser through Trevon Archibald, who scored from close range after a mistake was made by the Net Rockers goalkeeper in the 69th minute.
Later, Luckie regained the lead for his team with a spot kick in the 85th minute, but Botafago’s Jamal Haynes again levelled the scores through an 88th minute strike.
When the regulation period expired and an additional 15 minutes of play could not produce a winner, the mandatory five penalties also having failed to determine who would reach the final, the resort was therefore to sudden death kicks.
The Botafago side kicked first and scored, but the Rockers first shooter failed to find the back of the net, so Botafago took the place into the final the game ending 3-8.
The second game failed to be an even affair, as Eagles United, showing no respect for their opponents, dominated play through the efforts of an in-form forward named Drakes. He sent Team United in the lead in the 28th minute, and as Capital FC could not muster enough energy to make a competitive game of the encounter, having played tough games over the past two days, Drakes ran through their defenders to score in the 72nd and 80th minutes.
A tired Capital FC side could do nothing to prevent that game from ending 3-0 for Eagles, who will now take on Botafago in the final on Saturday at the tournament venue.
