Brazilian dredge owner robbed of gold by Venezuelan employees

Three Venezuelan nationals are on the run after they reportedly robbed a Brazilian miner of a quantity of gold on Saturday.
The robbery was committed on the 50-year-old miner at Guana Sand Backdam in Cuyuni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) about 09:00h on the day in question.
According to the victim, about three days prior, he employed the three suspects to work on his land dredge. However, on the day in question, while at his camp, the three suspects approached him – one of whom was armed with a cutlass – and ordered him to wash down his dredge.
Fearful for his life, the miner complied and while in the process of doing so, he managed to escape the men by running into the bush.
He later returned to his work site and observed that the mat in his sluice box was missing along with the gold. An alarm was raised and the victim later lodged a report at the Bartica Police Station.
An investigation is underway.
