Two Brazilian nationals were killed after the mining pit in which they were working caved in on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at S Bend Backdam, Chenapou, North Pakaraimas.
The deceased men were identified as 37-year-old Cleumiton Da Silva Santos, and 44-year-old Antonio Filho.
Police stated that the two men were working inside the mining pit when a quantity of sand collapsed into it. Several other workers managed to escape, but both men were trapped under the rubble. After hours, their motionless bodies were retrieved.
Due to the remote location, their bodies are currently at the worksite as arrangements are being made to transport them to the Mahdia District Hospital.
An investigation has been launched.
