A 41-year-old Brazilian national was taken into custody on Thursday after he was unable to produce the required permit for an Outlander Rossi air rifle, pellets, and a telescope that he had in his possession.
Police stated that, on the day in question, the geologist from Para State, Brazil, presented himself at the Customs Department Complex in Lethem, Central Rupununi, where he declared several items, including the air rifle, pellets, and matching telescope.
Upon questioning, he was unable to produce the relevant permit and was subsequently detained, along with the items, which were examined and lodged pending further investigation.
He remains in custody assisting Police with their probe.
