Meres, who was unrepresented when she made her first appearance before Magistrate Fabayo Azore, was denied bail after the prosecution cited in its objection that she did not have a local address and if granted bail, would not return to court.
As such, the woman was remanded. At her second appearance on Thursday, Meres was represented by Attorney Mark Conway, who informed the Chief Magistrate that his client now has a local address – Lot 60 Bel Air Springs, Georgetown.
It is alleged that on August 11, 2016 at Aishalton village, South Rupununi, the defendant had in her possession a live round of .32 ammunition without being the holder of a firearm licence.
The prosecution stated that on the day in question, the defendant was intercepted at Aishalton checkpoint where she was attempting to enter Marudi Backdam. The ammunition was concealed in a black handbag belonging to her.
The matter was transferred to the Lethem Magistrate’s Court for October 28, 2016.
