“Breaking the Barriers” Race Walk set for April 8

The cream of the country’s Race Walkers and a host of newcomers are expected to match steps on Sunday April 8 when the Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club in association with the Guyana Hemp Association (GHA) stage the ‘Breaking the Barriers’10K Race at the National Park.
The event is part of the GHA GuyHemp Festival which is aimed at sensitizing Guyanese on the importance of establishment an Industrial Hemp Industry in Guyana which will create opportunities, large scale employment and eradicate poverty.
Trophies, medals and other prizes will be at stake for the top three finishers in the male and female (seniors), juniors, veteran and differently abled.
Meanwhile, Coordinator of the Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club, Jennifer Major in addressing the club’s monthly meeting said that the sport has power to inspire, educate and unite youth of all ages, background and other abilities.
‘Through playing together youth also interact more with each other thereby improving their communities, decision making and skills and is also a powerful tool for building peaceful communities.
Major pointed at that the sport Race Walking is growing from strength to strength and has achieved several milestones which was useful to the sport despite the scarcity of sponsorship. “Guyana has a lot of raw talent in the sport Race-walking and without the necessary support, access to more training and participating in more races both locally and whereas these talents will be left to deteriorate. Interested participants must be at the startling line by 7:00 hrs.
