The Guyana National Rifle Association (Guyana NRA) held its Annual General Meeting on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the conference room of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), where Brigadier Omar Khan was re-elected President.
Attendance was conducted in a hybrid format, accommodating both in-person and virtual participation in accordance with the Association’s Constitution.
President Khan welcomed all members and expressed sincere appreciation for their continued service, participation, and unwavering support of the Association. He extended best wishes to members and their families for a productive 2026 and encouraged continued commitment to the Guyana NRA.
Brigadier Khan also commended those who led and participated in competitions locally and internationally, noting that their performances have brought significant pride to the Association and reinforced Guyana’s reputation as a formidable presence in the sport. He described these accomplishments as important milestones in the Association’s decades-long history.
Fullbore Captain Dylan Fields reported on the team’s successful defence of the Long-Range Trophy at the West Indies Fullbore Championship, where Peter Persaud captured the prestigious Grand Aggregate Title for Guyana. Additionally, Lennox Braithwaite and Leo Romalho delivered commendable performances at the Imperial Championship in England.

The Fullbore National Championship was won by Dylan Fields. Smallbore Captain Gordon Richards highlighted the continued absence of an indoor shooting range following the destruction of the facility at TSU. Currently, only the Timehri Rifle Ranges is available for outdoor shooting. He emphasised the urgent need for a new indoor range to facilitate various disciplines, including Olympic-style shooting.
Treasurer Hemant Narine reported that the Association remained in a healthy financial position, though some assets require evaluation. The Honorary Secretary presented a report on the management and operations of the Association, noting the addition of over 20 new members during the year — a positive sign for the organisation’s growth.
The Association also expressed heartfelt appreciation to President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali for the donation of a new bus and a tractor mower. These contributions will significantly enhance the Association’s operational capacity.
Looking ahead, the Guyana NRA will host an English Rifle Team in late April and plans to participate in the West Indies Championships in early May with the goal of recapturing the Short-Range Title.
At the AGM, elections were held for the General Council. Brigadier Khan was returned as President. Long-standing Treasurer Hemant Narine did not seek re-election to that post, but accepted nomination as a Council Member. Lennox Braithwaite was elected as the new Treasurer.
Lindsay Baird, formerly Smallbore Vice Captain, was elected Assistant Secretary Treasurer. Basmatee Mohabeer was elected as the new Smallbore Vice Captain, becoming the first female to hold that position in the Association’s history.
The membership also voted unanimously to appoint Messrs Mahendra Persaud and Harold Hopkinson as Life Members in recognition of their immense and longstanding contributions to the development of shooting in Guyana and for representing the country with distinction at the highest levels.
