The National Seniors Table Tennis Championships are but one step closer to conclusion. The action on Saturday night saw Shamar Britton and Jonathan Van Lange storming to the men’s doubles title, and Shamar Britton alongside Chelsea Edghill claiming the mixed doubles title.
In the men’s doubles, the duo of Shamar Britton and Jonathan Van Lange were practically untouchable. They had the job of fending off the likes of Godfrey Munroe and Christopher Franklin. An epic battle ensued, and the crowd went wild as Britton/Van Lange won the first round 11-3 to take the lead.
Franklin and Munroe bounced back and tied things with an 11-5 victory, and with the score tied 1-1, Britton and Van Lange blindsided their opponents to take the other two rounds 11-8,11-9.

In the mixed doubles, Shamar Britton again featured, but this time alongside Chelsea Edghill. They had the privilege of duking it out with Christopher Franklin and Natalie Cummings. This three-match encounter saw a great fight from both pairs, but it was Britton and Edghill who edged out their counterparts. The game ended 3-0, with Britton and Edghill winning the rounds 11-8, 11-9 and 11-6.

In the B Class section of the tournament, a total of eight groups participated. Jonathan Van Lange and Ebo McNeil topped group 1, Miguel Wong and Devon Richmond topped group 2, Colin Wong and Umar Percival topped group 3, Krystian Sahadeo and Abdool Rahim topped group 4; while Maurice Cummings, Kyle Chung and Malachi Moore tied in group 5 on three points each.
In group 6, Shavin Green and Terrence Rausch topped their group, while in groups 7 and 8, Nirran Bissu, Carring Hector, Levi Percival and Warren Hackshaw came out on top.
The action will continue tomorrow from 10:00 am and the finals from 16:00 hrs. The event will be live streamed on the Guyana Table Tennis Association’s Facebook page.
