The Guyana Table Tennis Association lend support to International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Level one (1) coach and Titans Table Tennis Coach and President Dwain Dick who is in pursuit of his ITTF level two certification, currently at the G.C Foster College Winter Pen Road Spanish Town, Jamaica . The course is being conducted by ITTF expert Christian Lilleross and runs from December 6 -11. Lilleroos is one of the most experienced ITTF experts having conducted over 30 courses across the world and on the North American Inter collegiate circuit serving as head coach of several top table tennis universities and colleges.
He will be assisted by Stephen Grant of Jamaica who will serve as the coordinator as Lilleroos is in Jamaica as part o the International Table Tennis Federation and International Olympic Committee Development of a National Sports Structure Program for Table Tennis. Held under the auspices of the Jamaica Table Tennis Association, the Latin American Table Tennis Federation and ITTF encourages regional participation in such courses for eligible coaches who would have conducted level one certification over the last year
The ITTF level two certification covers how to teach much higher level technical skills to fulfill the needs of athletes from ages 1—15 years old and or from their 5th to 10th year of development ( less reliant on the coach) The coach is officially recognised by the ITTF and has the following requirement in order for successful completion of attendance at 36 hours course conducted by an ITTF approved expert and passing both an oral and written exams.
After the course, 50 hours coaching practice must be completed from which 5 hours of the 50 hours must be supervised by a person appointed by the ITTF course conductor using the ITTF Confidential Coaching Report before the certification is issued by the ITTF course conductor
The GTTA views coaching as a critical and pivotal pillar upon which the sport must be built In order to improve the technical and tactical capacity of our players and by extension the game their needs to be higher levels of accredited coaches
The GTTA held an ITTF level two coaching program in august 2015 from which four (4) coaches were successful. National Table Tennis Coach Linden Johnson Assistant Director of Sport Melissa Dow Richardson Muniram Persaud , Raynor Anderson and Gibraine Safaraz Hussein are the other level two , Idi Lewis ICECP and ITTF certified coach.
The GTTA sees this and by extension raising the level of the players and creating the catalyst for improving the institutional structure such as club tournaments and training players at various technical levels. Dick with a nursery of some of the young table tennis talents emanating from the Titans table Tennis club is set to return to Guyana on December 13.
